Elsevier, a leading publisher of scientific, technical, and medical information products and services, recently held its second Asian Oncology Summit in Bali, Indonesia, on April 9–11, organized under the auspices of its UK-based medical journal, The Lancet Oncology.
Building on the success of the 2009 summit and with the theme of Optimising Multidisciplinary Cancer Care in Asia, the 2010 summit continues to encourage activities that offer a valuable contribution to the Asian oncology community. One such session is a joint plenary symposium by The Lancet Oncology and the Clinical Oncology Society of Australia, which presented the latest results from clinical trials in the Asia-Pacific region with local context added to each talk by Asian discussants.
This year’s summit also showcases, for the first time, the Editor’s Choice Poster Awards, which aims to recognise research in any area of clinical or translational oncology with the potential to improve clinical practice. Ten presentations were selected from about 90 submissions via a stringent peer-review process involving The Lancet Oncology and the summit’s faculty, and awards were given to the two deemed to be most clinically relevant.
The second Asian Oncology Summit also featured five parallel sessions over a 3-day conference dedicated to the different specialties of gastrointestinal, genitourinary, supportive and palliative oncology, thoracic cancer, and women’s health, collectively highlighting the latest research along with the trends and challenges of cancer management in Asia.
